After a long wait, Intex is finally launching their first ever smartphone powered by the Sailfish operating system. Both Jolla and Intex are present at on-going Mobile World Congress, 2016 to demo the device. Intex Aqua Fish has been showcased at MWC after a year of announcements made at the MWC Shangai 2015 event.
A little-known company from Finland formed by ex-Nokia employees, Jolla Ltd. developed an entirely new operating system based on the Linux kernel. An open source system was made available for the other vendors to utilize the power of this unique OS just like Android.
Intex Aqua Fish, first ever Sailfish OS 2.0 powered smartphone
The company made the announcement about a possible partnership with companies from China and India. Being said that an Indian brand Intex has showcased the first smartphone with Sailfish OS 2.0. Jolla mentions a wide range of manufacturing partners and Intex were the first one to come out demoing a smartphone.
More than a couple of quarters after the announcement, Intex Aqua Fish has finally been showcased to the enthusiast. We might just be a few months away from seeing it reaching to Asian markets. Though the complete details of the smartphone are yet to be disclosed, a Finnish website showed us the glimpse of the device some time back.
As per the leaks, the probable specification of Intex Aqua Fish is,
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 410-processor
- 1 GB of RAM,
- 8 GB of internal storage,
- Expandable memory up to 32B memory cards.
- 2300 mAH Battery
- 4.7-inch HD resolution
[Update] Here are the actual specs of the device,
- Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Quad Core 1.3Ghz
- Memory: 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage with Micro SD expansion
- Cameras: 8MP rear and 2MP front
- Display: 5-inch HD IPS panel
- 2500mAh battery
In terms of availability, the device will be going to be available only in India initially starting from this spring.

We can also see a newer Sailfish OS logo being displayed on the images.
The device will be running on the latest version of Sailfish OS version 2.0. This OS is also compatible to run Android apps opening up a huge arena of apps for the system. Well, nothing has been disclosed yet. Knowing that Intex a local brand from India, we might expect Intex Aqua Fish to be costing cheaper than expected. Rs. 10,000 maybe? Stay tuned for more updates!
